Fishermen from New Zealand, who were fishing in Antarctic waters, came up with the scariest catch ever--a HUGE squid. In fact, they caught the largest squid ever seen. It weighed almost 1000 lbs and was almost 39 feet long. When they pulled it up in their nets, the squid was eating the Patagonia toothfish they had been out to catch. More facts about this squid: 1. It's identified as a Colossal squid, scientific name Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni. 2. Squid like this can grow to be 46 feet long. Submitted by Fact Monster on Fri, 2007-02-16 19:48.
