Just to keep you up on what is happening in the world--in the long run you'll be happy you were kept in the know!

Right after the elections in November (the Democratic Party did very well, becoming the majority party--that means there are more Democrats than Republicans--in the Senate and the House of Representatives) President Bush said that his Secretary of Defense (Donald Rumsfeld) would be stepping down. The Secretary of Defense oversees the war in Iraq and things haven't been going well. So President Bush chose a new person to lead the war, Robert Gates. He starts his new job as Secretary of Defense today. Gates's last job was being the president of a university.

  • A chameleon can move its eyes in two directions at the same time.
  • Dolphins sleep at night just below the surface of the water. They frequently rise to the surface for air.
  • A cockroach can live for up to a week without a head.
  • An albatross can sleep while it flies. It apparently dozes while cruising at 25 mph.
  • Amazon ants (red ants found in the western U.S.) steal the larvae of other ants to keep as slaves. The slave ants build homes for and feed the Amazon ants, who cannot do anything but fight. They depend completely on their slaves for survival.

  • A leech is a worm that feeds on blood. It will pierce its victim's skin, fill itself with three to four times its own body weight in blood, and will not feed again for months. Leeches were once used by doctors to drain "bad blood" from sick patients.

Answer coming soon!!

Well, since my favorite Red Sox did not make even the playoffs this year I had to pick a team to follow through the post season and the St. Louis Cardinals were it! And they won baseball's World Series in five games. Excellent. I do love birds (I can fly as well) thus the Cardinals remained my favorite team.

And while I'm on the subject of baseball, did you know that the first World Series was played between Pittsburgh and Boston in 1903 and was a nine-game series. Boston won the series 5-3.

Oh, dear Boston . . .
