Looks like Monday's hail storm will keep the most recent space shuttle flight from launching. The hail actually made divots in the shuttle's fuel tank. NASA wants to check out if the divots are dangerous to flight. The Russians plan to launch a Soyuz vehicle to visit the International Space Station at the end of March, so the American shuttle needs to launch soon in order to maintain the Russian's schedule. I used always get sports teams mixed up. The Lakers play basketball in Los Angeles? Are there lakes in LA? Well, it turns out that the team started in Minnesota, land of a thousand lakes. In 1628, William Harvey publishes An Anatomical Study of the Motion of the Heart and of the Blood in Animals, describing how blood is pumped throughout the body by the heart, and then returns to the heart and recirculates. The book is very controversial but becomes the basis for modern research on the heart and blood vessels. |
