This time of year lots of us are spending money (and hoping others will spend money on us) so it's interesting to see how far our money would go in ending disease, fighting hunger, and generally helping those less well off.
More on spending. Submitted by Fact Monster on Sun, 2006-12-10 22:47.
There are supposed to be three words that end in "gry". Hungry and angry are two of them. What is the third one? Click for the answer! Submitted by Fact Monster on Tue, 2006-11-28 20:52.
Want to learn about other cultures? Looking for fun stuff to celebrate? What better way to learn about the world than to learn about their parties! For example, Brazil's Carnival is sort of like New Orleans Mardi Gras. In fact, many people consider Carnival one of the world’s biggest celebrations. Each spring, on the Saturday before Ash Wednesday, the streets of Brazil’s largest city, Rio de Janeiro, come alive with wild parties, festivals and glamorous balls. Don’t read these books if you’re eager for a good night’s sleep. These page-turners are impossible to put down! And might get you thinking about things going bump in the night. I've read all of these : Encyclopedia Brown series by Donald J. Sobol Leroy Brown, aptly nicknamed Encyclopedia, uses his sharp ear and keen intelligence to find every clue and detect every flaw in a culprit’s story. He and his father, the chief of police of Idaville, work together to crack the toughest cases. This is my favorite!! Submitted by Fact Monster on Thu, 2006-11-09 17:12.
Hanna Montana! Because she is not a real person (unlike everyone else on the list). Submitted by Fact Monster on Mon, 2006-11-06 22:58.
Which of these is the odd person out?
I'll give you the answer in a few days! Submitted by Fact Monster on Tue, 2006-10-31 16:47.
The midterm elections are Nov. 7, next Tuesday. Why do we vote on the first Tuesday in November? It has something to do with church, agrarian society, and good weather. In most states polls open before the work day begins and stay open till about 8 PM. And many people vote in school auditoriums and cafeterias. See if you can go to the polls with your parents. It's a great way to participate, even if you can't vote. And in most states you can register to vote when you're 17. Look forward to it! Submitted by Fact Monster on Mon, 2006-10-30 18:40.
More women have won the Nobel Peace Prize than any other Nobel Prize. In the last few years, a Kenyan woman and an Iranian woman have won the Peace Prize for work they have done primarily for women in their own countries. This year, a Bangladeshi man, Muhammad Yunus, won the Peace Prize for work he has done giving very small loans to mostly women in Bangladesh—to help these women start small businesses to gain more economic independence. Read a full list of women Nobel Prize winners. |
